Being handicapped, hearing or visually impaired has it challenges but your accommodations doesn't have to be another challenge.

I have to problem with parking in the handicap space because most places I travel to have many spots reserved for guests like myself. However, when a lodging option offers Accessible Accommodations, you know that they truly care about their guests.

I stayed at a place that offered accessible rooms but I don't think designers understand what all is preferred.

Being disabled and still working on the road, I am very picky with the places I stay.

This is what I believe should be available in all accessible rooms:

-A room near on the 1st floor or nearest the elevator

-At least a queen size bed with room on all sides for a wheelchair

-A roll-in shower with safety bars set at low and higher heights for showing in a chair and for stabling standing to wash my own body

-A door bell that is connected to a light source or flashing light for my guest who visit my room so that I may know when someone is coming without them calling the front desk for entrance since most cell phones have service issues in hotels

-One switch at chair level that controls all lights.

This being said, a resort is preferred!!! Most have all these requests. Thank you for looking out for us whom are "challenged" but want to travel without "challenges"!!!
